The solid femoral nail (UFN) and the cannulated femoral nail (CFN) are used for the stabilization of diaphyseal and metaphyseal fractures of the femur. The UFN nail is usually used with the technique of insertion without milling, while the CFN nail, due to its cannulation, is usually used preferably with the technique of insertion with milling and on a guide wire.
